How the Infrared Sauna Works
1. Detoxification
Infrared saunas can help increase blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins in the body.
Daily sauna sweating can help detoxify the body as it releases heavy metals (lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulfuric acid and other organic and inorganic compounds.
It has been known for decades that sweating is a wonderful way to get rid of stored chemicals.1
Infrared saunas are also used at the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, Beth Israel Hospital in New York, and the Acadia Cancer Institute in Germany.

2. Stress and fatigue reduction
Just a few minutes in the gentle warmth of an infrared sauna will help one feel relaxed, rejuvenated and renewed.
Many infrared sauna customers comment on how much they look forward to their sauna session. An infrared sauna sanctuary provides a great time to relax. It’s like having a day spa in the home that’s open all the time.
Infrared saunas have been shown to affect the autonomic nervous system by putting the user in the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state, allowing the body to heal and restore itself.

3. Muscle aches, arthritis and joint pain
Too much of anything can take its toll, including exercise. Infrared saunas can help relieve inflammation, stiffness and soreness by increasing blood circulation and allowing the deep, penetrating infrared heat to relax muscles and carry off metabolic waste products, while delivering oxygen-rich blood to the muscles for a faster recovery.
Infrared helps warm the muscles for greater flexibility and range of motion, while relieving muscle tension and pain.
Studies have also shown that time spent in an infrared sauna can bring relief from different forms of arthritis.3 Radiant heat has been effective in the treatment of sprains, neuralgia, bursitis, muscle spasms, joint stiffness and many other musculoskeletal ailments. Much of the normal stiffness, aches and pains that come with aging can be lessened with regular sauna usage.

4. Weight loss and increased metabolism
An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association has stated that regular use of an infrared sauna imparts a similar boost to the cardiovascular system as running. While relaxing in the gentle infrared heat, the body is producing sweat, pumping blood and burning calories.
This is called a “passive aerobic workout,” because although the body is receiving all these benefits, it is not being stressed in the same way as a normal workout. The body is more relaxed and is in parasympathetic mode during that time.
As the body increases sweat production to cool itself, the heart works harder to pump blood while boosting circulation. This increase in metabolism is also burning more calories.
A 30-minute infrared sauna session can burn somewhere between 300–800 calories.

5. Immune system support
The penetrating infrared wavelengths from infrared saunas raises the core body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. A fever is the body’s mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection.
This enhances the immune system, and combined with the improved elimination of toxins and wastes via intense sweating, it can increase overall health and resistance to disease.

6. Skin conditions
The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in a sauna carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing and clean. Increased circulation draws the skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface for a natural glow.
Many clients report improved skin tone, color, elasticity and texture. Increased blood circulation has also been shown to help improve acne, eczema, psoriasis, and aid wound healing with reduced scarring.

7. Heart health
The Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver found that infrared sauna therapy can help keep blood pressure within healthy levels, lower cholesterol, reduce chronic pain and be of therapeutic value to patients with chronic congestive heart disease (CHD).
A study published in the Journal of the Japanese Circulation Society showed that infrared sauna therapy reduced heart arrhythmias and the symptoms of chronic heart failure in patients with cardiovascular disease.

8. Appearance of cellulite
Cellulite refers to superficial pockets of trapped fat, which cause uneven dimpling or “orange-peel” skin. It appears in 90 percent of post-adolescent women and is rarely seen in men.
Common, but not exclusive, areas where cellulite is found are the buttocks, thighs, and the abdomen. Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not related to obesity, and the appearance of cellulite is not always reduced by weight loss.
Because the far infrared radiant heat of a sauna warms three times as deep as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite. There is a link between the slowing of metabolic rates and the storage of toxins in fat cells.
Sauna use and far infrared heat increases heart rate and localized blood circulation, which essentially reverses the above-mentioned trends toward the accumulation of liquids in the fat cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

9. Diabetes support
Much has been written about how infrared sauna therapy can aid and support those managing diabetes, because it helps decrease multiple side effects.

What is Himalayan Salt Therapy?
Dry himalayan salt therapy natural therapy using micro particles of salt to promote better breathing, healthier skin, sounder sleep, improved physical fitness and endurance and overall wellness. Himalayan salt bricks are infused in our infrared therapy sauna sessions.

How does it work?
Salt has the following properties:
-
Antibacterial
-
Anti-inflammatory
-
Mucolytic effects: loosens excessive mucus and speeds up mucociliary transport
-
Removes pathogen agents (airborne pollen)
-
Reduces IgE level (immune system oversensitivity)
The salt is grounded into tiny micro particles by our himalayan salt bricks and then dispersed into the sauna. While relaxing in one of our sauna, customers inhale the dry, salt-enriched air deep down into the lungs. Where the healing benefits do their greatest healing! The salt widens the airways and loosens the mucus, which begins to clear quickly, and inflammation is reduced, which makes more room in the airways for you to breathe. Symptoms subside, sometimes for up to 12 months. The non-inhaled particles landing on the skin help to balance pH and induce the reparative and regenerative processes in the skin, increasing rigidity and stimulating cell growth and microcirculation.
We use Himalayan salt bricks and cover the sauna floor in Himalayan salt to generate negative ions, which help to counterbalance the influx of positive ions from the many electronic devices we use every day. This improves your overall mental and emotional health, helping you to relax and de-stress.

What should I expect in a himalayan salt treatment?
Our beautiful and spacious salt room allows for dry salt therapy to be experienced alone or in a group setting. The large room simulates the environment of a therapeutic salt cave, with Himalayan salt covering the walls and floor to calm the mind and body by releasing negative ions.
-
Negative ions counterbalance the many positive ions we pick up from electronic devices like cell phones, tablets, etc. Neutralizing the atmosphere in this way stabilizes mood, decreases stress and prepares the body for ultimate healing.

Micro particles of salt are dispersed into the sauna while you relax, read, listen to music, sleep or meditate.
What should I expect ?
A therapy session here lasts either 30 or 60 minutes. An appointment must be made beforehand. Himalayan Salt/Infrared Sauna is a private setting where you can choose to disrobe to expose trouble skin. We provide soft, relaxing music for you to listen to during the session however, you do have the option to plug in your own device during the session. When the session begins, we strongly recommend closing your eyes and taking slow deep breaths.
* If you suffer from claustrophobia, you may experience discomfort but the ability to see your surroundings, helps keep this to a minimum.
What clothing should be worn in the salt room and salt bed?
Comfortable clothing is recommended for the salt room. You may change into clothing that exposes areas of skin you would like the salt to reach (shorts, sleeveless shirts, skirts, etc). The salt/infrared sauna is ideal for skin exposure and is private. We recommend wearing a bathing suit to expose the skin you want treated.
What are the side effects?
Since himalayan salt/infrared therapy is 100% natural and drug free, there are no negative side effects. After sessions, you may experience a slight cough, minor tightness in the chest or runny nose, but this is simply the salt doing its work to remove mucus and toxins from the lungs and airways.
How often should you come?
-
Depending on age and stage of your condition, 20-30 sessions are recommended for long term results.
-
The sessions should be frequent; about two or three a week is suggested.
-
For irreversible conditions, two to three-month follow-up sessions are recommended to maintain the clear lungs.
In most patients, after a course of Himalayan Salt/Infrared Therapy, airways become normal and symptoms disappear. The treatment's efficacy is estimated at 75-98%. Most clients do 1-2 sessions a month. In between they might come back for some top-up sessions, if they start to feel poorly, e.g. they are coming down with a cold.

Is salt therapy safe for children?
Yes! Himalayan Salt therapy is a completely drug-free treatment for children and adults. Children as young as 3 months have benefit greatly and respond quickly and effectively. Children are more prone to respiratory problems because they pick up more viruses and their lungs are not fully developed until about the age of 9. In addition, the environment is filled with pollutants which children have a harder time keeping at bay.

Is salt therapy safe for pregnant women?
Yes. Himalayan Salt therapy is a great choice for women who do not want to rely heavily on over-the-counter or prescribed medication for sinusitis, asthma, allergies, and other respiratory illnesses. Pregnant women who have come to BREATHE have experienced relief for their congestion and chronic respiratory problems. In addition, the ionized salt particles help boost their immune system.
Should I stop using my medication during himalayan salt therapy?
No. Himalayan Salt Therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. People who come to BREATHE often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications and that their episodes are not as frequent or severe. However, you should always follow you
